Hi, my name is Ashley Roylance and I am a Media Associate at Spawn Ideas. This means I assist the media team in evaluating the best place for a client’s message to go. This can be anywhere you have seen an ad like a digital ad on Instagram or a printed ad in the newspaper.

Tell us about the journey that led you to join the Spawn team.

I first heard about Spawn Ideas from Professor Elizabeth Nerland at UAA. She brought in guest speakers from Spawn and each one was dynamic and passionate about their work and I knew that was something I wanted to be a part of.

At the start of 2020, I had a seasonal job lined up and was planning on taking a year to travel before pursuing a career. That quickly changed when I found myself on unemployment after losing my job due to Covid. I went to Google and typed in “marketing jobs near me” and the perfect position at Spawn Ideas popped up. It was a good sign when I received an email on my birthday to schedule an interview.

What are you most proud of from your work here at Spawn?

Being in media has taught me adaptability and I am proud of how much I have grown in the last 9 months. Spawn has a diverse portfolio of clients in multiple industries and each day brings new questions and opportunities. We are constantly trying to research new placements for our clients and be sure we are providing them the best options for their business and audience.

What is your idea of success?

You have to be comfortable with the uncomfortable to push your personal limitations. This is success to me, co

nstantly wanting to challenge yourself and allowing that fear of change excite you instead of preventing you.

What’s the best advice you were ever given, and who was it from?

“Find Your Center”

My dance teacher, Becky Kendall, Director of Momentum Dance Collective, always told us to find our center, but she meant it more than just physically finding your balance. Always keep yourself grounded by finding what motivates you and focusing on that to balance your way through life.
